"The only
speaker I could find that could cast a more rock-solid center
image is the utterly minuscule, stupidly-good-at-the-price, ...
NSM Model 5, which shoots images in the room like a laser and
beats out just about any speakers in this regard. The little
NSM presents center-placed vocal images as if they are right
THERE, like a softball hovering in the air. It's almost eerie
and, no doubt, the Model 5's fit-in-the-palm-of-your-hand size
helps."

seemed to image like a hologram."

"...the
NSM 5s can create as much quality bass as can be accommodated
in a room where they are likely to be used."
"The
NSM 5s are for people who need and love their music."
"The
NSM 5s are the product of a company that makes small speakers
because they know how to build them right."
"...in
a suitably sized room, the NSM's will give you all the output
that your room (and your amplifier) can handle."

"Their
ability to unravel detail, particularly through the midrange,
is excellent and easily on par with speakers that cost $1000
or more."
"I found out quickly that thee Model 5s can do extremely
impressive bass for its size..."
"...the drums, guitar and vocals all had body and size,
proof to me that image size does not necessarily correlate with
speaker size."
"..vocals were cast so rock-solid in the center that I placed
it among the best I've heard at any price."
"I was left shaking my heat at the fact that such big sound
came from such little boxes."
"...they were shocking in their ability to fill
my moderately sized 12' by 16' room with sound..."

NEW! Model 5 SE
The Mode 5 Signature Edition is a hot rod version of the Model
5. The cabinet is a hand rubbed white Russian Baltic birch plywood
cabinet, long known for its anti-resonant properties and sonic
quality. The Model 5 SE is hot rodded with Superior (TM) binding
posts, full value film foil capacitor, metal oxide resistor,
and DH Labs silver sonic internal wire. Imagine sound and imaging
even more exquisite than that of the standard Model 5.

"These
are THE BEST SMALL speakers I have found for under $1000."
"... the reviewer said "These are the smallest speakers
I am aware of that will blend with a quality subwoofer at a normal
crossover frequency. Be wary of any satellite speaker that requires
a crossover setting higher than 80Hz because you will very limited
in subwoofer placement options (near the front speakers), or
you will be forced to listen to the sub as a separate enclosure
by itself."
"I know
could not have found a better speaker for the size or price of
the Model 5s. These speakers actually "blend" with
my sub so well, it is down right spooky. Now when I play material, I hear the
deep bass from my sub, but my brain tells me its coming from
the Model 5s! Its eerie!!! The blend is SEAMLESS!"
"Strengths: Very high quality sound.
Not bright, not laid back, but just right.
Good bass for their size. I cound NOT FIND another speaker this
size that will extend deep enough into the bass region to "blend"
with a quality subwoofer at a normal crossover frequency. Imaging
is really really good. Its difficult to "localize"
the speakers. This is really helpful when watching movies, as
the sound seems to "envelop" you, not just seems to
eminate from the individual enclosures.
Small, Lightweight (7 lbs). I have them wall mounted to 3/8"
sheetrock using Omnimounts and "EZ-Anchors" (Didn't
have to worry about hitting a stud)."

"...exudes thoughtful design and craftsmanship."
"...the Model 5s have an easy and expansive sound."
"...the
NSM M5s are about as spatially precise as can be achieved."
(Ultralinear.net
2005 review)
I own the 5s's and would say
they are a very good value and they do produce intrinsically
musical sounds. They disappear completely and produce a wide,
deep stage full of musicians with a near three dimensional presence.
By themself they produce music above 100Hz which will hold your
attention and provide many important clues as to the artist's
intent. Below 100Hz they can surprise you with their extension
and power. They are the smallest speaker I know of which can
easily be paired with a subwoofer without having to set the crossover
to the sub so high in frequency as to make placement problematic.
Beware of any satellite speaker system which requires a sub setting
higher than 80Hz as you will be forced to either place the sub
in very restricted locations or listen to the sub as a separate
enclosure apart from the satellites. This usualy defeats the
purpose of buying a small satellite system, when you get tied
down to placement and/or quality of sound issues. Give the NSM's
a try. While not a single driver design, their approach to point
source operation makes for a more interesting presentation than
many larger enclosures can provide.
