Connections:
If you are using a preamp,
surround sound processor, or tape outputs on a receiver as sources
for the EXP or 15EXP, use shielded cables with RCA jacks to send
left and right line level, full frequency signals to the subwoofer.
If you are using a Dolby Digital/AC-3 surround processor as your
source, use shielded cables with RCA jacks to connect the processor
to the left and right line level inputs on the subwoofer. Set
the speaker setting for the loudspeakers to the "small"
position. The "direct in" switch on the subwoofer should
be set to the "on" position to bypass the crossover
in the subwoofer.
The circuits of the subwoofer
amplifier combine the left and right input signals and sends
the combined signal into the subwoofer amplifier. The line
level RCA output connectors provide full frequency line level
output to an amplifier or receiver to drive satellite speakers.
If you are using a power amplifier
or receiver to provide speaker level source inputs to the subwoofer,
use speaker wires to connect the power amplifier to the left
and right speaker level inputs on the subwoofer. Ensure the speaker
wires are connected in the same polarity to the amplifier and
the subwoofer. The subwoofer left and right speaker level output
terminals provide full frequency output to satellite speakers
when the speaker level inputs are used.
Placement:
For the most audiophile response,
locate the subwoofer on the same plane between, and slightly
ahead of , the front satellite or main speakers. For convenience,
the EXP and 15EXP may be located away from the main or satellite
speakers. For the most bass reinforcement, locate the subwoofer
near to a wall or corner. Engage the phase switch to find the
setting that provides the loudest output and coherence with the
satellite. In the correct setting the speaker system will sound
louder. Adjust the crossover switch to get the best acoustical
match with the satellite speakers.
Setting the Bass Level:
For music
systems, adjust the crossover and engage the phase switch to
achieve bass

output that complements but does not overpower
the satellite or surround speakers. A lower crossover setting
and a volume level that provides seamless
integration with the satellite speakers will generally provide
the most desirable response.
If you are
using the EXP or 15EXP in a specialized application such as a
recording studio, use professional acoustical measurement equipment
to set the desired bass response and level.
Care:
The subwoofer should be played
at moderate volume initially to allow the driver to break in.
Always ensure the volume is not set to the maximum level
when you turn on your system. Never drag or push the subwoofer,
as this will damage the "feet." It is preferable to
lift the subwoofer by grasping the port with one hand and the
bottom of the subwoofer with the other hand. To clean the fabric
surface, lightly vacuum it with a vacuum tip that has soft bristles.
The painted surfaces may be cleaned with a solution made of 50
percent water and 50 percent rubbing alcohol. Use a soft tissue
or a soft cloth saturated with the alcohol and water solution
to wipe the painted panels. Use dry, soft tissue or cloth to
dry the panel. Do not buff.
Warranty:
The EXP and 15EXP active
subwoofers are intended for use in the reproduction of music
and are warranted against defects in materials or workmanship
that occur in normal use for five (5) years from the date of
original purchase for the amplifier and for ten (10) years from
the date of purchase for other subwoofer components. NSM Audio
Co. will repair, replace or adjust defected parts for the original
owner without charge for parts or labor, provided the subwoofer
is returned at the owner's cost to the dealer from whom the subwoofer
was purchased or to NSM Audio Co.
This warranty does not apply
to damage that results from abuse, accidents including those
that occur in shipping, and any damage that results from repair
or modification by anyone not specifically authorized to make
repairs by NSM Audio Co.
In order to claim coverage
under this warranty, you must provide proof of purchase in the
form of a sales slip. The warranty gives you specific legal
rights, and you may have other rights which vary from state to
state. |
